Community & Advocacy
Beyond the lab and clinic
Cody is deeply committed to community and patient advocacy, bringing care and connection to where they are needed most.
Care in practice, not just theory
The same commitment that drives Cody’s research shows up in how he spends his time outside of it. From free clinics to residential recovery to campus community-building, his advocacy is hands-on, patient-first, and rooted in the belief that better brain health should reach everyone.
Free Medical Clinic
Volunteered at a free medical clinic serving Honolulu’s unhoused population, delivering care to people who too often go without it.
Mindfulness Programs
Co-designed mindfulness-based programs for college students and psychiatric patients, supporting mental health through evidence-informed practice.
Behavioral Health Technician
Served as a Behavioral Health Technician at a residential recovery facility, frontline experience that directly informs his research into substance use disorders.
Diversity & Inclusion
Helped launch diversity and inclusion community events at CU Boulder, building spaces where more people feel they belong.
Why It Matters
Advocacy that feeds the science
For Cody, community work and research are not separate tracks, they inform each other. Time at the bedside of patients in recovery, in free clinics, and alongside students shapes the questions he brings back to the lab, and keeps the human impact of brain health front and center.
It is the same conviction, expressed two ways: that rigorous science and genuine compassion belong together.
